This Department is responsible for the following:
PLANNING, TRAINING AND MANPOWER DEVELOPMENT
- International Relations
- Co-ordinate Bilateral/Multilateral relations; e.g. World
Bank, UNIDO, UNEP, IMO etc
- Establish and maintain contacts with International
organization e.g. OSRL, IPIECA, ITOPF, IOPC etc.
- International Relations
- Liaise with relevant key government Ministries, Parastatals
and Agencies
- Organises and coordinates technical meetings with relevant
stakeholders
- Organises and coordinates awareness programmes.
- Training and Manpower Development
- Organises Staff Training Programmes
- Organises and Coordinate Seminars, Workshops and Conferences
RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
- Laboratory Services
- Analysis of field samples
- Testing/registration of oil spill clean-up products
- Conduct research on field operations challenges
- Liaise with institutions of learning, consultants and
other organizations on research findings and development
- Library and Information Technology
- Publications, e.g. Newsletters, monographs etc
- Acquisition of Books, Journals, and other relevant literatures
on Spill Management
- Oil Spill Data Bank/Statistics
- Information and Telecommunication Technology acquisition
Geographic Information System (GIS)
- Remote Sensing/interpretation of remote sensing data
- Environmental Sensitivity Index Mapping
- Maps, Satellite imageries etc.
POLICY AND COUNCIL MATTERS
- Council Matters
- Liaise with Federal Ministry of Environment on - World
Environment Day (WED)
- Africa Environment Day (AED)
- National Council on Environment (NCE)
- Liaise with NGOs and other interest groups.
Equipment Procurement/Servicing
- Tenders Board
- Procurement and Servicing of Equipment
- Servicing of asset
Zonal Offices Coordination
- Liaise with zonal offices
- Receive and coordinate technical reports from zonal offices
